An officer from a ministry was arrested by anti-corruption authorities in Putrajaya for allegedly accepting RM40,000 in bribes in return for expediting payment claims for a contractor company. The man, who is in his 40s, was apprehended at the Putrajaya Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on Wednesday (Oct 18) at around 2pm. According to sources, the suspect is accused of committing the offenses between 2017 and 2020, and the bribe money was found to have been transferred to his bank account.
Putrajaya MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. However, after providing his statement, the suspect was subsequently released on a RM10,000 MACC bail.
