Datuk R. Ramanan announced that a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer has been assigned to the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) office. The officer will be present at Mitra’s meetings and provide guidance to prevent any mismanagement from occurring.
Ramanan, who is the Mitra Special Committee Chairman, expressed his gratitude to MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki for assigning the officer. He stated, “If there is any issue, MACC will definitely take action.” He also mentioned the presence of an officer from the Integrity Unit at the press conference in Putrajaya on Friday (Nov 10).
RSN Rayer, a Mitra special committee member, expressed confidence that public perception of Mitra would improve. He emphasized the importance of using Mitra funds in a detailed and transparent manner. Rayer also thanked the chairman for discussing every allocation and ensuring transparency in the recipient profiles.
Rayer added, “Under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Ramanan’s leadership, Mitra’s targets will be achieved and more Indians will receive aid.” The duo addressed reports about the MACC concluding investigations involving the misappropriation of Mitra funds and the subsequent charging of those involved in court.
Azam had advised Mitra on necessary improvements in managing its funds, according to the duo’s response to the reports. Mitra had been investigated by the MACC in 2021 over allegations of misappropriated funds from 2019 to 2021.
