Graft investigators are currently investigating new leads in the case involving Yayasan Akalbudi, which involves Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, according to Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) declined to provide further details on the ongoing investigation.
“I am not sure how long it will take to look into the new leads.
“I leave it to my investigators,” he said during the opening of a conference on Wednesday (Sept 6).
Last Monday, the High Court granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) for all 47 graft charges filed against the Deputy Prime Minister in relation to Yayasan Akalbudi funds.
Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah justified the extended investigation time, stating that the defence’s representations had required extensive examination by the prosecution, spanning hundreds of pages.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Dusuki Mokhtar provided 11 reasons for this extended investigation, including the need to prevent any miscarriage of justice and to allow for more comprehensive investigations by the authorities.
The defence had submitted multiple representations to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on December 8, last year, and on January 26, February 28, and March 7.
