An unemployed man’s wife informed the Magistrate’s Court in Ipoh that she intends to withdraw her police report against her husband, who had threatened her earlier. S. Premlata, 36, stated that they have two young children to care for, and she will post bail for G. Ganesan, 38. Ganesan was charged with criminal intimidation according to section 506 of the Penal Code on Aug 22. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
The offence was said to have taken place on Aug 7 at around 7.30pm in a house located in Taman Idaman Chemor. Ganesan allegedly scolded his wife, attempted to hit her with a helmet, and threatened to burn down the house.
Ganesan requested a fine instead of jail time during the court proceedings, asserting that his wife would pay it if imposed. In response, Magistrate Jesseca Daimis adjourned the court and requested S. Premlata to be present to verify Ganesan’s statement. After the adjournment, Premlata confirmed to the court her intention to retract the police report.
Premlata expressed her desire to give her husband a second chance, stating that if he repeats such behavior, he should be punished without her interference. As a clerk herself, Premlata suggested that being detained would teach Ganesan the hardships of being in a lock-up.
Magistrate Jesseca advised Premlata that lodging a police report is not a trivial matter and should not be done to manipulate someone’s repentance. Nonetheless, she set the bail at RM3,000 with one surety, stipulating that the surety must be a family member other than the wife. The mention for the case was scheduled for Sept 19, and it was prosecuted by DPP Noor Nabilah Norzam.
