ISKANDAR PUTERI: Newly-elected Mahkota assemblyman Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah has been sworn in as a member of the Johor state legislative body.
The 40-year-old took his oath of office during the one-day Johor state assembly meeting held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here in Kota Iskandar on Thursday (Oct 3).
The swearing-in ceremony was held before Johor State Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi and witnessed by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and other state assemblymen.
Mohd Puad congratulated Syed Hussien for winning the by-election, which was held on last Saturday (Sept 28), and becoming an elected representative for Mahkota state seat.
“Not only did you (Syed Hussien) win but you won with a huge majority. I will also like to congratulate both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan in working together for this win.
“Special thanks should also be given to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is also the Machap assemblyman, for this result as well,” he added.
Mohd Puad also said that the Johor state assembly expressed their condolences to the family of former Mahkota assemblyman the late Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain who passed away on Aug 2, which led to the by-election.
Syed Hussien won the recently-concluded Mahkota by-election with a 20,648-vote majority beating Perikatan Nasional’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar in a straight fight.
The Kluang Umno youth chief received a thumping 27,995 votes while Mohamad Haizan got 7,348 votes.
Mohd Puad – who is also the Rengit assemblyman – also congratulated Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Amira Aisya Abd Aziz for getting married recently.
He wished Amira Aisya a happy marriage with her husband, saying that he hoped it would last for a long time.
