KLUANG: Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will only make divisive statements while campaigning in Johor and leave without having to pick up the pieces, says Datuk Seri Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar hit out on the Bersatu supreme council member, who challenged him to form a unity government in the state if Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah wins the Sept 28 Mahkota by-election.

“He is only here to help out in the by-election campaign. After the campaigning period, do you think he will return to Mahkota?

“It will only be local leaders and I who will clean up the mess and take care of the people’s welfare,” the Barisan Mahkota by-election director was quoted as saying in an interview with China Press here on Thursday (Sept 19).

Responding to Azmin’s challenge made at a Perikatan event on Wednesday (Sept 18), Onn Hafiz said the federal-level unity government was formed following the 15th General Election in 2023, which was after the Johor state election in 2022.

In the Johor election, Barisan won 40 state seats, with 33 from Umno, four from MCA, and three from MIC.

Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, with 10 from DAP and one seat each from PKR and Amanah.

Perikatan has three seats with two from Bersatu and one from PAS, while Muda has one seat.

Onn Hafiz added that he has a good relationship with Pakatan leaders in Johor and at federal level, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Just ask state balancing force chief Andrew Chen and other Pakatan leaders – I give the same allocation to all assemblymen.

“What I give to Barisan, I also give the same to our friends in Pakatan,” he said.
