KLUANG: Police have confirmed that Barisan Nasional’s Mahkota by-election candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah has no criminal record.
“Checks show that Syed Hussien is not listed in the Criminals and Undesirable Persons Act 1969, said Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh.
“Investigations were in fact carried out regarding the case that was mentioned (by Perikatan) and referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.
“However, the office instructed that no further action needed to be taken so nobody was charged in court, including Syed Hussien,” ACP Bahrin said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 26).
Perikatan Nasional’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, otherwise known as Chegubard, earlier claimed he had obtained police reports that Syed Hussien was involved in a fight.
Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros responded by saying Barisan headquarters had done thorough vetting and background checks before nominating Syed Hussien.
Later, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi explained that the incident happened when Syed Hussien was in his 20s, where he defended a blind person from being harassed and assaulted by a group of people.
Syed Hussein is in a straight fight with Perikatan’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar for the state seat, with polling set for Saturday (Sept 28).
