PETALING JAYA: The voter turnout for the Mahkota by-election is at 23.39% as of 11am, says the Election Commission (EC).

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun (pic) said voter turnout is expected to be more than 60%.

He also said that results are expected to be as early as 9pm.

The polling centres will close at 6pm, after which vote-tallying will be conducted at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail in Kluang, Johor.

A total of 61,397 voters will cast their ballots in the Mahkota state by-election today.

Some 109 polling stations have been made available at 20 centres.

The by-election is a straight fight between Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, 40, of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, 61, of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
