KLUANG: Kluang Umno Youth chief Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah (pic) has pledged to deliver the best service to the people after receiving a strong mandate in the Mahkota state by-election on Saturday (Sept 28).
Syed Hussien, 40, said all the issues raised by local residents during the campaign, such as the cost of living, housing, education, and flash floods, would be among his main focuses as the area’s representative.
“I believe the state government is very consistent in terms of policies and plans that contribute to the people’s well-being, and I will discuss the issues raised with the relevant authorities, while also ensuring that the Mahkota state constituency does not miss out on the benefits of the Maju Johor 2030 agenda.
“For example, actions related to the flash flood issue have already been implemented, with some measures announced. This issue (flooding) is one of my key focuses to bring up at the next state assembly session,” he said.
Syed Hussien said this to reporters during a meet-and-greet session with Mahkota residents at Laman Kreatif here on Sunday (Sept 29), where he also expressed his gratitude to the voters of Mahkota for ‘gifting’ him a large majority Saturday.
The large majority from various sections of society, according to Syed Hussien, indirectly signals that aggressive and divisive political approaches must stop.
“What matters is the people’s welfare and how we can safeguard their interests. This inspires me to continue serving in a more inclusive manner, with a more familial approach to guide Kluang towards a better future,” he said.
Syed Hussien also thanked everyone who worked tirelessly to support the campaign, as well as those who ensured the voting process ran smoothly until the official announcement of the by-election results.
Earlier, Syed Hussien visited the grave of his father, Syed Abdullah Syed Abdul Hamid, at the Kampung Melayu Muslim cemetery here. His father passed away four days before the nomination process.
Barisan Nasional retained the Mahkota seat with a 20,648-vote majority win over Perikatan Nasional’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, who received 7,347 votes.- Bernama
