KLUANG: Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Mahkota by-election, hopes to continue his predecessor’s legacy.
The 40-year-old father of two said he was grateful to the party and its leadership for allowing him to contest for the state seat.
“Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain has made many contributions, and I hope to continue what she started.
“I will do my best,” he told the press after the Barisan candidate was announced and the coalition’s election machinery launched here on Saturday (Sept 7).
Syed Hussien, who is also a councillor for the Kluang Municipal Council, completed his primary education at a Chinese school.
The local man has been a party member for over 20 years.
Earlier, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that Syed Hussien is set to be Barisan’s candidate for the Mahkota by-election.
The Mahkota state seat became vacant when its assemblyman, Sharifah Azizah from Umno, passed away on Aug 2, three days after she was hospitalised.
Sharifah Azizah won the seat in the March 2022 Johor state election by a 5,166-winning majority, beating three other candidates from Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan and Parti Warisan.
Polling for the by-election has been set on Sept 28, while nomination day for candidates is on Sept 14.
