In Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has contributed RM75,000 to the Pertubuhan Amal Kebajikan dan Perubatan Malaysia (MediCOM) for the purpose of providing circumcision for 500 children aged between five and 12 this year.
Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs, mentioned that the aid recipients are children from underprivileged families who may struggle to afford the RM150 cost of the procedure at a clinic.
He explained that MAIWP’s contribution to MediCOM included RM40,000 for equipment and RM35,000 as a token for 500 medical personnel, along with disposable materials costing RM80 for each participant.
The mass circumcision event, which involved 100 children and took place on Feb 28, was attended by MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer and acting CEO Datuk Mohd. Nizam Yahya.
Aside from the mass circumcision programme, Mohd Na’im also visited three “asnaf” families at Taman Seri Sentosa Flats to provide them with various forms of assistance.
These include monthly financial aid of RM600, school stationery with a value of RM800, other schooling aid worth RM1,700, basic needs amounting to RM300, and medication ranging from RM303 to RM3,360.
