Multiple main roads in Johor Baru will see closures from February 28 to March 2 for the 2024 Chingay Parade, according to Johor Baru Selatan OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat.

On February 28, the roads will be closed for “street cleansing”, while on February 29, closures will be in place for the “coming out of the deities” event. For the “bringing back the deities” event on March 2, several roads will also be impacted.

The highlight of the festival, scheduled for March 1, will see Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Jalan Ngee Heng, Simpang Jalan Ulu Ayer Molek, Jalan Yahya Awal, and Jalan Dato’ Onn closed from 6.30pm to 3am.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion, as diversions will be put in place, ACP Raub stated.

He also reminded the public to follow all rules and regulations during the parade, emphasizing the importance of not causing disturbances or provoking others.

The Chingay parade covers a distance of 7.8km and is a religious and cultural event within the Chinese community in Johor Baru, dating back to 1870. The event includes a procession of floats. — Bernama
