A group of Palestinian students studying in Malaysia expressed their gratitude towards the nation and its people for their unwavering support in advocating the Palestinian cause. Said Aljamala, a 28-year-old PhD candidate in structural engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), praised Malaysia’s dedication and believed that it should serve as a model for other Islamic nations. Despite being unable to attend the recent “Malaysia Stands with Palestine” rally due to his studies, Aljamala acknowledged the presence of his fellow countrymen and emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims in the struggle for Palestine.
Aljamala shared that his family’s house in Al-Sabra, south of Gaza City, was destroyed in an Israeli military bombing. Fortunately, all seven of his family members managed to evacuate the area before the attack. However, due to the lack of Internet and electricity in the region, Aljamala faced difficulties in keeping in touch with his family and obtaining updates on their well-being. Despite the challenges, he expressed hope for their safety and urged Malaysians to appreciate the peace and independence they currently enjoy.
Zidan, a 29-year-old doctorate student from UPM’s Faculty of Medicine and Science, expressed her deep gratitude towards Malaysians of all religions and races for their solidarity with Palestine. She recalled participating in a rally condemning the Israeli military regime in front of the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, where she witnessed the diverse attendance of not only Muslims but also non-Muslims, including individuals from Chinese and Indian backgrounds. Zidan highlighted that the fight for human rights is a global endeavor.
