PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines is planning to reopen its in-town flight check-in and baggage drop facilities at KL Sentral starting from September 1, 2023.

According to a joint statement released by Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) and Malaysia Airlines, the reopening of these facilities aims to provide air travelers with convenience, time-saving benefits, and the luxury of arriving at the airport without any luggage.

“Initially, the service will be exclusively accessible to Malaysia Airlines’ passengers after resuming operations, and it will later be offered to other airlines as well,” the statement said.

Passengers will be able to check in for their flights and drop off their luggage at KL Sentral within the airline’s counter operation hours from 6am to 10pm.

“At KL Sentral, passengers will receive their boarding pass, and all their checked-in baggage will be subjected to security scanning and tagged for their final destination, similar to the airport process,” the statement added.

The CEO of ERL, Noormah Mohd Noor, expressed delight in reopening the in-town flight check-in facility for loyal passengers who have been requesting this service since the pandemic.

“As our ridership continues to grow, the time is right to restart the check-in services. When we first started operations in 2002, Malaysia Airlines was the first airline to offer such services, and it is only fitting to relaunch them,” Noormah said.

The in-town flight check-in allows air travelers to avoid queuing at the airport and provides them with more time to enjoy a meal, exchange currency, or shop while waiting to board their flight.

Noormah assured passengers that their baggage would be safely transferred to the airport, just as it has been done in the past 17 years with a near-perfect record.

The Chief Marketing Officer of Malaysian Aviation Group, Lau Yin May, emphasized that their top priority is ensuring a safe and seamless journey for passengers from start to finish.

“With the resumption of ERL check-in services, passengers staying near the city center have another convenient option to check in, drop off their baggage, and have it seamlessly transferred to their flight, allowing them to board the train to the airport without any hassle,” May said.

Additionally, ERL will be offering a discount of RM10 for passengers purchasing KLIA Ekspres tickets.

This RM10 voucher, available for a limited time only, will be given to each adult passenger using the airline check-in facility at KL Sentral and can be redeemed until December 31, 2023.

For passengers using the in-town check-in facility, Malaysia Airlines requires a minimum check-in time of two hours before the flight departure time for both domestic and international travel.

Passengers can find more information about the in-town flight check-in facility and the latest offers at www.KLIAekspres.com.

For further assistance, the public can contact Customer Enquiry at 03-2267 8000 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 6:00 pm), or reach out to KLIA Ekspres on Facebook and Twitter.
