KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) are committed to working together to curb cybercrimes in both countries.
The cooperation is in line with the aim of a three-day workshop on “Curbing Cybercrime Trends” organised by the AFP.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the workshop’s primary objective is to strengthen enforcement against the sexual exploitation of children, especially on pornographic websites.
“The bonds between the main law enforcement agencies of both countries are strengthened through this workshop organised by the AFP at the Australian High Commission, which ended on Wednesday (July 24).
“The workshop clearly shows how PDRM, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, and AFP are committed to enhancing enforcement efforts by both countries in dealing with cybercrimes, particularly online sexual exploitation.
“We hope the workshop will provide necessary exposure to all PDRM officers involved, enabling them to face bigger challenges due to the advancement of information technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI),” he said in his speech after officiating the closing of the workshop.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily noted that a total of 10 senior officers from the CID Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) Malaysia Internet Crimes Against Children (MICAC) unit, as well as four CID officers from other divisions, took part in the workshop.
“Representing Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, we are grateful to the Australian High Commissioner and the AFP for providing the facility for the workshop participants and their ongoing support and cooperation,” he said.
Among those present were Australian High Commissioner Danielle Henecke, AFP senior officer Detective Superintendent Nick Moger, other AFP officers, as well as Bukit Aman CID deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng and D11 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Siti Kamsiah Hassan.
