In a telephone conversation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Brunei, Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir discussed the latest developments in Gaza and efforts to reduce escalation and protect civilians. The call with UAE’s Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also addressed the security and humanitarian consequences of the Palestine-Israel crisis and the urgent need for safe corridors to deliver relief and medical aid to affected civilians.
The foreign ministers stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to contain the crisis and end extremism, tension, and violence in the region. Zambry also expressed his determination to work with Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs II Datuk Erywan Pehin Yusof across all platforms to address the situation in Palestine.
Furthermore, Zambry spoke with his counterpart from Turkey, Hakan Fidan, mentioning their plans to meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to explore possibilities of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza. Both ministers agreed that the Palestinians should be treated with dignity and respect, and that the ongoing atrocities committed by the Israelis must cease. Malaysia and Turkey will do their best to assist the Palestinians.
Regarding his conversation with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, Zambry offered Malaysia’s assistance in addressing the humanitarian needs of the Gazans. The situation is extremely concerning, with the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza since October 7th rising to 2,670. The local Health Ministry reported that 750 children were among the fatalities, and the number of wounded has reached 9,600.
