The joint military exercise between Malaysia and Indonesia is currently taking place in Sabah’s east coast Tawau district, with the aim of enhancing the capabilities and understanding between the two nations’ armies.
Known as the Keris Kartika Malaysia-Indonesia exercise or Kekar Malindo, the nine-day exercise involves more than 600 officers and personnel from both armed forces.
Brigadier-General Hashim Osman, Commander of the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade, stated that the exercise focuses on improving the armed forces of both countries under conventional offensive warfare.
During the launch of the Kekar Malindo exercise series 46 AB/2023 at the 126th Royal Malay Army Regiment field in Kukusan Camp, Hashim expressed confidence that the exercise would increase the competence levels of officers and personnel in tactical aspects.
The Fifth Division will also provide support for the exercise, including armor, technicians, and field artillery.
Hashim emphasized that bilateral exercises like this are the ideal way to identify weak points and improve tactical understanding between the two countries.
He urged all officers and personnel to carry out their roles in the exercise with full commitment.
Lieutenant Colonel Danan Wisnubrata, Commander of the 613/Raja Alam Infantry Battalion in Tarakan, Indonesia, stated that the exercise holds strategic value for the Malaysian and Indonesian militaries.
He praised the initiative as a means to foster cooperation and improve the quality and professionalism of both armed forces.
