PUTRAJAYA: The World Organisation for Animal Health (Woah) has reinstated Malaysia’s African Horse Sickness (AHS)-free country status on Sept 15, after it was suspended in Aug 2020 due to an outbreak in Terengganu, according to a statement by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) on Saturday (Sept 23).
DVS received a letter from Woah stating that Malaysia has fulfilled the requirements set by the body through Resolution No. 15 to recover the AHS-free country status. The department will continue to carry out laboratory tests for AHS surveillance to ensure the maintenance of this status, based on Article 12.1.5 of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code,” added the statement.
DVS stressed its commitment to ensuring that animals and livestock in Malaysia remain free from any threat of disease, as reported by Bernama.
