BANGKOK: Malaysia is committed to strengthening ties and expanding cooperation with Thailand in areas of mutual interest, according to Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Jojie Samuel.
Since gaining independence in 1957, Malaysia and Thailand have maintained diplomatic relations. Ambassador Jojie assured that Malaysia is a good neighbor and partner, emphasizing its dedication to working with Thailand and advancing the bilateral relationship.
Ambassador Jojie expressed confidence in achieving the target of USD 30 billion (RM 140 billion) in bilateral trade by 2025. In 2022, Thailand was Malaysia’s sixth largest trading partner, ranking second among ASEAN nations, with a total trade value of USD 27.75 billion (RM 130 billion).
“Malaysia primarily exported electrical and electronic products, chemicals, crude petroleum, and LNG, amounting to USD 14.97 billion (RM 70 billion) to Thailand,” Ambassador Jojie explained. “Additionally, Malaysia imported USD 12.78 billion (RM 60 billion) worth of goods from Thailand.”
