The Home Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, has announced that a new task force will be established to address the growing problem of cybercrime in the country. This task force will be overseen by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and will involve the participation of the police and other relevant agencies. Saifuddin stated that this new entity will implement a set of regulations specifically designed to safeguard the nation’s cyberspace. He made these remarks during a press conference held after the opening of the Kebun Bunga service centre at Mount Erskine on November 4.
While the initiative is still under discussion in Cabinet meetings, Saifuddin revealed that the task force is expected to be formed following two to three Parliament meetings next year. The Attorney General’s Office is currently tasked with the process of drafting the regulations for this new entity.
Prior to the press conference, Saifuddin attended the official opening ceremony of the Kebun Bunga assemblyman Lee Boon Heng service centre, also located at Mount Erskine. During the ceremony, he distributed 100 Deepavali packs to policemen and residents in the constituency. Key attendees of the event included state police chief Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin, George Town Acting OCPD Supt V. Saravanan, and local community leaders.
