KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has stated that the country will enhance bilateral relations with Iran across various fields to benefit both nations. Anwar expressed this desire during a meeting with Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi in New York, as he shared on Facebook today.
“In the meeting, I expressed Malaysia’s desire to enhance bilateral relations with Iran through cooperation in the fields of economy, education, food security, science and technology, as well as exploring the potential for new forms of cooperation,” Anwar said.
Anwar further mentioned that Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) and a Joint Economic Commission (JEC) Meeting with Iran to refine the potential scope of cooperation. He expressed hope that the relations between Malaysia and Iran would continue to strengthen for mutual benefits.
The Prime Minister is currently in New York to attend the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Seyed Ebrahim is the second foreign leader to meet with Anwar in New York today, following a meeting with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. – Bernama
