Malaysia’s progress as a great world-class nation cannot be achieved if only one race succeeds, according to Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, a veteran of the Democratic Action Party (DAP).

During the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections, voters have the opportunity to make history by voting together and sending a clear message that the success of the country is desired by all regardless of race or religion, he stated.

Lim Kit Siang pointed out that Malaysia’s founding fathers, including Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, recognized the country’s multiculturalism and stated that if the nation wants to become great, it must work together as a united entity rather than being divided along racial lines.

He emphasized that Malaysia should not become a country defined by a specific race, such as Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, or Dayak, but rather should be a nation for all its citizens.

Lim Kit Siang highlighted the significance of the two by-elections, stating that their outcome will have an impact on Malaysia’s future.

He voiced concerns over Malaysia falling behind neighboring countries in terms of development and emphasized the need to regain its position as a great nation by adhering to the principles of nation-building.

The former Iskandar Puteri MP also expressed support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government, stating that it should be given a chance to lead and develop the country.

He stated that the Perikatan Nasional coalition, comprising Bersatu and PAS, does not share the same vision for the country as the unity government does.

Lim Kit Siang urged voters to understand that even if the Pulai parliamentary seat is lost, the unity government will not lose its two-thirds majority, ensuring stability.

He called on Johor to become the front-line state in saving Malaysia.

The ceramah, which took place at Taman Bukit Indah, was attended by various political figures, including representatives from Umno, Amanah, Selangor Mentri Besar, PKR, DAP, and Johor Barisan Youth.

The Pulai seat has a total of 165,313 voters, consisting of 44.18% Malays, 40.46% Chinese, 12.31% Indians, and 3.06% others.

Simpang Jeram has a total of 40,014 voters, comprising 51.87% Malays, 44.58% Chinese, 2.53% Indians, and 0.99% others.

Early voting for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats will take place on September 5, with polling day scheduled for September 9.
