KUALA LUMPUR: The delegation of Malaysian MPs, led by Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, recently visited the French National Assembly and Senate, as well as attended the Inter-Parliamentary Meeting between the Parliament of Malaysia and the European Parliament. This meeting, organized by the European Parliament, took place from July 11 to July 13. The purpose of the meeting with the French National Assembly was to enhance cooperation in areas such as economic development, climate challenges, and environmental protection.
During the meeting with the European Union Parliament, Tan Sri Johari highlighted the shared goal between Malaysia and the European Union in ensuring the well-being of their people. He emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to upholding the values of freedom, equality, peace, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This visit signifies the desire of both parties to strengthen bilateral relations.
Among the Malaysian MPs who participated in the visit were the chairpersons of various Special Select Committees, including Wong Chen (International Relations and International Trade), Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (Finance and Economy), Datuk Jonathan Yasin (Security), and Yusuf Abdul Wahab (Infrastructure, Transport, and Communications).
Tan Sri Johari led the Malaysian delegation to Strasbourg for a meeting with the European Parliament, which was chaired by Danial Caspary, the chairman of the Delegation for Relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (DASE). Malaysia expressed its willingness to cooperate and share ideas and technology with the European Union, which will provide opportunities for the younger generation to engage with new technologies through technology transfer programs. The discussion also explored deeper cooperation to develop trade investment between the European Union and ASEAN to achieve common goals.
