According to Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din, a total of 28 Malaysians have been detained overseas for smuggling drugs, which is an increase from last year’s 17 detainees.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin stated that in 2021, 32 Malaysians were arrested for being drug mules at various entry points of foreign countries, highlighting the growing concern of this issue.

The syndicates involved in drug smuggling reportedly used social media to recruit the mules, offering them payments ranging from RM5,000 to RM10,000 for their services.

He emphasized the importance for Malaysians to be cautious and not fall for offers that promise high returns, as the syndicates employ various tactics to entice people into drug smuggling.

To combat this issue, Comm Mohd Kamarudin urged the public to report any suspicious offers or activities related to drug smuggling to the NCID hotline at 012-2087222.

The increasing number of Malaysians falling victim to drug smuggling syndicates is a cause for concern and calls for greater vigilance from the public.

It is crucial for individuals to be aware of the tactics employed by these syndicates, and to resist the lure of easy money in exchange for illegal and dangerous activities.

Education and awareness about the repercussions of drug smuggling are essential in preventing more Malaysians from getting involved in such illicit activities.

The efforts of law enforcement agencies, coupled with the cooperation of the public in reporting suspicious activities, are vital in combating the scourge of drug smuggling in Malaysia.
