Malaysians are encouraged to show solidarity with Palestine by taking part in the “11 Minutes for You, Palestine” campaign on Nov 11 (Saturday) from 9pm to 9.11pm.
Muhd Farhan Muhd Fadhil, operations director of the Palestine Liberation Solidarity Coalition (GSPP), stated that the campaign consists of turning off lights for 11 minutes to symbolize togetherness and to recognize the suffering of the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, which has been targeted by continuous attacks from the Zionist regime since Oct 7.
He explained that the date 11.11 was chosen for its significance and ease of remembrance, and it is meant to stand out from other special events. “So, we take 11 minutes starting from 9pm when it gets dark by understanding the fear of the Palestinian people when they are in the dark because the electricity supply is cut off for hours, interspersed with the Israeli regime’s relentless bomb attacks,” he added.
The coalition GSPP, representing over 50 organizations and NGOs, was established on Oct 11.
During the 11-minute period, participants are also encouraged to partake in activities such as prayers, reciting Qunut Nazilah, meditating, and praying for the well-being of Palestinians.
Muhd Farhan expressed concern about the ongoing war in Gaza, stating that it will shape the future of the Palestinian people and the possibility of a Second Nakba or ethnic cleansing if action is not taken. “It is our responsibility as Muslims to fully sympathize with the Palestinian plight so that we can pressure the relevant parties and the international community to thwart the Israeli regime’s colonial plans,” he said.
At the end of the 11 minutes, people are encouraged to take pictures of their clenched fists and share them on social media with the hashtags #SebarkanKemenangan (spread victory) and #AkhiriPenjajahan (end colonisation) to spread the message of Palestinian solidarity globally. – Bernama
