JAKARTA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes Malaysia’s participation in the 43rd Asean Summit here will further strengthen Asean’s centrality in the Indo-Pacific region and encourage Asean’s inclusiveness and openness in its ties with external partners.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, arrived in the capital of Indonesia on Monday (Sept 4) to attend the summit, which will take place from Tuesday (Sept 5) until Thursday (Sept 7).
“This platform can drive unity, peace, and stability while navigating challenges and evolving regional geopolitics,” he shared on his X account (formerly known as Twitter).
Anwar also pointed out that this platform can serve as an avenue to articulate the Malaysian government’s stance on global issues, along with engaging in a series of summits to enhance diplomatic ties with Asean partners.
As the head of the Malaysian delegation, Anwar is set to have several bilateral meetings with Asean Dialogue Partners, including Australia, China, Japan, India, South Korea, the United States, and Canada.
In addition to the official proceedings, the Prime Minister intends to meet his Indonesian acquaintances in the ‘Meet Anwar Programme,’ marking the first of its kind held outside Malaysia.
“May all planned activities proceed smoothly and receive His blessings, Insya-Allah,” he added, as reported by Bernama.
