PETALING JAYA: According to TasteAtlas, an international food guide website, roti canai from Malaysia has been recognized as the world’s best bread. It has secured the top spot among the “Top 50 Best Breads in the World” on the website’s list, making it Malaysia’s preferred breakfast option. With a rating of 4.9 stars, it is on par with the second-best bread, Colombia’s pan de bono. The listing features Malaysia’s national flag, Jalur Gemilang, although roti canai is also available in Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.
Roti canai is a popular pan-fried flatbread in Malaysia, made using flour, water, and eggs. The dough is folded multiple times to create layers, resulting in a soft and fluffy texture on the inside and a crispy outer layer, as described on the website. This is not the first time that roti canai and other Malaysian delicacies have been featured on TasteAtlas’ lists of the best foods globally. Earlier in February 2023, roti canai was ranked as the second-best street food in the world. In September 2022, it secured the top position among 50 other street foods on the website’s list of the World’s 50 Best Street Foods.
