The suspect in the arson attack on Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham’s house in Ayer Tawar will be released on police bail, according to Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Nordin Abdullah.
Following the referral of investigation papers to the state Public Prosecutor, ACP Mohamed Nordin stated that they had received an instruction to release the man.
He added that the suspect is to be released with police bail and may also become a witness to the investigation if necessary.
“The police are urging anyone with information on the arson to come forward or contact investigating officer Asst Supt Mohd Azalan Ab Karim at 019-392 7837 to facilitate investigation,” ACP Mohamed Nordin said.
Earlier reports indicated that the police had obtained an order to remand the man until Wednesday.
The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested in Shah Alam on Friday to assist in the investigation under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire. He was initially remanded until Tuesday to aid in the investigation.
The arson occurred in the early hours of January 10, when a Molotov cocktail was believed to have been thrown onto the porch of Ngeh’s house, resulting in a fire that damaged three cars.
