IPOH: An Orang Asli is believed to have been trampled to death by an elephant near a rubber plantation in Kampung Lerlar RPS Kemar in Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Supt Zulkifli Mahmood said the 65-year-old man was found soaked in blood and was said to have died on the spot by a medical officer from the RPS Kemar health clinic on Sunday (June 23) at about 5.40pm.

“Investigation found that at about 3.15pm on the same day, the victim had gone into the plantation to look for wood.

“The victim’s 44-year-old daughter, who was in a hut nearby, heard his screams and also the sound of the animal,” he said in a statement on Monday (June 24).

“Shortly after, the woman and her brother-in-law rushed to the location and found the man soaked in blood.

“They also caught a glimpse of the elephant,” he added.

Supt Zulkifli said the matter has been classified as sudden death.

“The police would like to advise the community at the village to be careful when conducting agricultural activities.

“They should also inform the authorities if wild animals are present so that actions can be taken,” he added.
