During a special joint operation on Wednesday (Nov 8) night, a man was discovered transporting 40 construction workers in a tour bus despite only possessing a motorcycle license. The 22-year-old man was stopped at the Sungai Ramal Toll Plaza (East) by personnel from the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Overall, the operation involved 106 personnel from various departments including the Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), Immigration Department (JIM), National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), and the Department of the Environment (JAS).
According to the bus driver, he was en route to transport the passengers from his workplace in Serdang to their hostel in Kajang when the authorities detained the vehicle. He mentioned that he was filling in for his brother and was paid RM30 for the trip.
The bus was subsequently seized by the JPJ under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987. The Selangor JPJ director, Azrin Borhan, reported that a total of 5,223 vehicles were checked during the operation, which began at 8pm on Wednesday.
Out of the vehicles inspected, 281 were issued with 531 notices for various offenses. Additionally, four vehicles were confiscated, including the bus operated by the unlicensed driver. Azrin noted that the most prevalent offenses were technical in nature, such as illegal modifications, and that the police also issued 55 summonses for various infractions.
Furthermore, five motorists were detained for testing positive for drugs, and 42 foreigners were held for immigration offenses as well. The joint operation demonstrates the significance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in addressing multiple aspects of public safety on the roads.
