    Man Charged with Murder After Setting Wife on Fire

    MANJUNG: A security guard at an entertainment club, accused of setting his wife on fire, has been charged with murder.

    S. Gabriel, 28, also faced a drug abuse charge at the Magistrate’s Court in Manjung.

    He was charged with killing his wife E. Komathy, 33, at a house in Ladang Waldbrook, Sitiawan, between 6.30pm and 7pm on July 10.

    Gabriel nodded in acknowledgment as the charge was read out before magistrate T. Kavitha.

    The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

    Deputy public prosecutor Rishan Kumar prosecuted the case.

    Case mentioned is set for September 18.

    In another Magistrate’s Court, Gabriel faced charges of methamphetamine and amphetamine possession.

    The offence allegedly took place at the Pantai Remis police headquarters on July 12.

    Gabriel pleaded guilty before magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai, who scheduled the mention for October 25, pending the submission of the Chemistry Department report.
