KUALA LUMPUR: A man, aged 70, entered a plea of not guilty at the Sessions Court on Wednesday (Dec 27) for allegedly committing three acts of physical sexual assault on his teenage granddaughter four months prior.
He has been accused of committing the offense against the girl, who was 15 years and seven months old at the time, at a residence in Brickfields between 6am and 9pm in mid-August of this year.
The charge laid against him falls under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same act.
If found guilty, the man could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. In addition, Section 16(1) provides for imprisonment for not more than five years as an additional punishment.
Judge Siti Aminah Ghazali granted him bail of RM5,000 with one surety for each charge. She also ordered him not to intimidate the victim and witnesses.
She scheduled the next mention for Jan 29.
The accused was unrepresented, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Noorhani Muhmmed Ayub prosecuted the case. – Bernama
