In Kota Kinabalu, a local man has been accused of cheating a contractor out of RM150,000 by falsely promising to secure a RM1.5 million project to repair a school in 2019.
58-year-old Sidu Edin pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code before Special Corruption Court Judge Jason Juga on Tuesday.
The self-employed man allegedly received RM150,000 from contractor Husni Andi Panusureng in exchange for assistance in securing an emergency repair project at SMK Terusan Sugut in Sabah’s Beluran district.
Judge Juga granted Sidu bail set at RM15,000, with RM3,000 already deposited and a requirement for a guarantor with a permanent address.
Additionally, the accused was instructed to report to the MACC office every two months and was warned not to interfere with any witnesses involved in the case. He was also required to surrender his international passport.
The prosecution was led by Dzulkarnain Rousan Hasbi, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Fadzri Azham.
The case has been scheduled for mention on April 2.
