In Melaka, a 40-year-old man who is currently unemployed has been accused of threatening to set his mother on fire, causing injuries to his wife, and exposing his genitals to his three daughters. These charges were brought against him in the Sessions Court on Thursday before judges Azaraorni Abd Rahman and Rohatul Akmar Abdullah.
The man pleaded not guilty to all eight charges that were read to him. The first three charges were related to him allegedly exposing his genitals to his daughters, aged 12, 14, and 16, at their home in Taman Merlimau Baru, Jasin on Feb 26. These charges fall under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
If found guilty under this Act, the man could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail, a fine not exceeding RM20,000, or both. Additionally, he was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation for threatening to set his 63-year-old mother on fire. This offense carries a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Moreover, the man faced four more charges for allegedly causing injuries to his wife, aged 41, and his three daughters at the same location and time as his previous offenses. These charges were brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A, which could result in a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
The prosecutors handling the case were Deputy Public Prosecutors Najwa Nazari and Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim, while the accused chose to represent himself. Both courts denied bail and set April 22 as the next mention date for the case to proceed.
