SEREMBAN: Two employees of a company, responsible for setting up fireworks for a New Year’s Eve show at a Port Dickson hotel, were hit by fragments from exploding fireworks materials on the roof of a carpark, resulting in the death of a local man and injuries to another on Sunday (Dec 31), according to Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed.
The 40-year-old victim sustained severe injuries to the face and died on the spot, while his 39-year-old colleague was sent to Hospital Port Dickson for treatment, Supt Aidi Sham said in a statement on Monday (Jan 1).
He added that an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident and the case has been classified as sudden death.
The police officer also urged the public to refrain from speculating on the incident as it could interfere with the police investigation.
Video footage and images of the explosion went viral on X earlier on Monday, according to Bernama.
