At Napoh, Changloon, a 57-year-old man was fatally shot by the police on Friday (Feb 16), as per Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh.
In the incident at 5.30pm, the suspect fired two shots at the police before he was killed in a police operation named Op Laras.
“The police noticed a man behaving suspiciously in a car near Jalan Bukit Kechik during the operation,” he told reporters.
Fisol explained that the police instructed the suspect to stop, but he did not comply.
He added that the suspect fired two shots at the police, and in self-defence, the police retaliated with four shots that struck the suspect’s left chest, resulting in his immediate death.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had four criminal records for drug and firearms-related offenses.
Police also found two pistols and 240 rounds of ammunition inside the suspect’s car.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
Fisol stated that additional investigations would be conducted to determine any potential connections the suspect may have had with criminal syndicates.
The suspect’s body had been taken to Hospital Jitra for a post-mortem examination.
