In Melaka, a 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a three-year-old boy.
Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman read the charge against Muhammad Firman Hakimie Abdul Rahman at a Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh. No plea was recorded.
According to the statement of facts, the accused allegedly murdered the child at a house in Jalan PE 15, Taman Paya Emas, Cheng, between 5.30am and 6.30am on July 6.
The charge falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a possible death penalty upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Wardah Ishhar and counsel Datuk Hanif Hassan were present in court.
Next mention date is scheduled for Aug 23.
The media previously reported an incident where a woman’s boyfriend allegedly killed her son after he stained a sofa.
Meanwhile, the victim’s biological mother Nurasyiqin Syaqiqah A. Ramlee, 24, faced charges at a Sessions Court for causing physical or emotional injuries to a child.
Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam read the charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act. Conviction may result in a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail for up to 20 years, or both.
Deputy public prosecutor N. Sivashangari handled the case while counsel Umar Zulkarnain represented the accused.
The court granted bail set at RM15,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the police on the first day of each month until the case is resolved.
