A fisherman in his 40s is feared drowned after his boat sank in a river near Kampung Pasang Api in Bagan Datuk.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer-in-charge Faiezaruddin Mohd Yusop said a search and rescue operation is now underway to look for the victim after receiving a call about the incident at about 1.10am on Wednesday (Oct 11).

“There were three fishermen involved; two were rescued by the public while the third is still missing,” he said in a statement.

Faiezaruddin said the search and rescue operation would be conducted along the stretch of river between Kampung Pasang Api and Kampung Beting Beras Basah.

He added that about 40 people from the Civil Defence Department, Fire and Rescue Department, the police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency are involved in the operation.
