A local man in Sabah’s Beaufort district was arrested after allegedly attacking two police cars with a parang and a meat cleaver. The incident occurred in Kampung Kiambor, Kuala Penyu at 2.30am on Sunday (Sept 17). The 40-year-old suspect, who was believed to be under the influence of glue inhalation, resisted arrest before being apprehended.
Beaufort OCPD Supt Ismail Abdullah stated that they received multiple calls from concerned villagers reporting the man’s aggressive behavior just after midnight. In response, two police cars were dispatched to the scene.
When the police vehicles arrived, the suspect suddenly emerged from a bush, armed with a parang in one hand and a meat cleaver in the other. He swung the weapons at the cars before fleeing the scene. However, the police managed to apprehend and subdue the suspect despite his continued aggressive behavior.
Supt Ismail reported that the attack caused damage to the police cars, including broken side mirrors, tail lights, and beacon lights. The man has been detained until Thursday (Sept 21) for further investigation. He is being charged under Section 506, 186, and 427 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, obstructing public servants from discharging their duty, and mischief, respectively.
