    Man injured in KK house fire after ceiling collapses

    KOTA KINABALU: A 47-year-old man was injured after a part of fallen ceiling hit his shoulder during a fire at a village near here on Wednesday (April 3).

    The victim sustained the injury when trying to put out the fire that broke out at a house in Kampung Muhibbah Baru there.

    According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the emergency call came in at 3.19pm alerting the incident where personnel from Lintas fire station, Kota Kinabalu fire station and Tuaran fire station were sent to location.

    “The blaze destroyed the upper floor of the two-storey house.

    “A man was hurt on his shoulder after being hit by a ceiling part that has fallen, and he has been treated by the emergency responders on site.

    “The fire was under control at 4pm and the operation ended at 5.46pm,” said the Department spokesman.

    Meanwhile, house fires were also recorded in two separate incidents in Putatan and Kudat districts respectively. No casualties were recorded in either fire.

    In the first incident, a call came in at 12.20pm reporting the fire that broke out at the seventh floor of a block unit at PPR Taman Sri Serigai.

    A team from Penampang fire station rushed to the scene, where the blaze was caused by used clothes heaped outside a unit.

    The residents managed to put out the fire using fire extinguishers and water from the pipe, however the outside structure of four units at that level were damaged.

    “The operation ended at 3.28pm,” said the Department spokesman.

    In the Kudat blaze, a call came in at 12.35pm to report the incident at Kg Andap Jawa there.

    A house was completely destroyed, along with four vehicles parked there.

    “The fire was under control at 1.37pm and the operation ended at 2.52pm,” added the spokesman.
