A fatal accident occurred when a man’s four-wheel drive (4WD) collided with a trailer at KM383.3 of the North-South Expressway near Muallim district in Ipoh. Muallim OCPD Supt Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir stated that the incident happened around 4.50am on Thursday (Sept 7).
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Muhamad Azwan Roslan from Dengkil, Selangor, according to Supt Mohd Hasni. He had two passengers with him, Abdul Mutalib Abdul Rahman, 34, who suffered a broken left arm, and Muhammad Sazrul Nizam Muzamil, 29, who sustained multiple injuries to the head, body, and right leg.
Initial investigations suggest that Muhamad Azwan was drowsy and accidentally crashed into the back of the parked trailer on the side of the highway, added Supt Mohd Hasni. The driver of the trailer, Muhammad Afiq Rosli, was unhurt.
The 4WD vehicle was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh. Upon arrival at the scene, Muhammad Azwan and Abdul Mutalib were trapped inside the vehicle, and personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department had to use special rescue equipment to free them, disclosed Supt Mohd Hasni.
Unfortunately, Muhammad Azwan succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while his passengers were rushed to Slim River Hospital for immediate medical attention.
