Police in Johor Baru have arrested a 42-year-old man and seized 5,000 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM12,900 during a raid in the area.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat reported that the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 5 Sungai Kores had detected a suspicious lorry while conducting surveillance in the industrial area of Seri Purnama on Aug 25 at 5.15am. The team approached the vehicle and successfully apprehended the suspect.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the man is believed to have been purchasing subsidised diesel from nearby petrol stations. In addition, the suspect has a history of involvement in gambling, according to Comm Kamarul Zaman’s statement on Sunday (Aug 27).
The GOF team seized numerous items including hoses, diesel engines, pumps, empty containers, and a static tank containing diesel oil valued at RM12,900.
Authorities are investigating the case under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. The man is suspected of possessing controlled goods and intending to commit an offence with the items, as well as lacking a valid license.
