DUNGUN: Police managed to arrest one man following a chase involving a lorry that covered nearly 100km, while two others escaped on Thursday.
Dungun district police chief, Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir, revealed that the three men were spotted in an Isuzu lorry under dubious circumstances in Kampung Santong, Paka, at 4am on Thursday (Jan 25).
Upon being flagged down for inspection, the suspects sped off, driving the lorry into the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) and crashing through the toll plaza barrier in Paka.
“They then drove the lorry towards Kuala Terengganu and left at the Ajil Toll Plaza before making a U-turn to Dungun, via the Jerangau-Jabor road,” she said.
“The suspects also broke through another toll plaza barrier when exiting the LPT2, as well as a roadblock in the Jerangau area, before taking the Tok Kah road and exiting at the Kampung Pulau Serai intersection towards Dungun town,” she added.
Maizura stated that the lorry came to a halt near the Nibong bridge, after which the driver and his two accomplices, both in their 30s, fled the scene.
However, one of the suspects, a 35-year-old man from Kuantan, Pahang, was not as fortunate and was apprehended at 6.55am on Thursday.
“Upon inspecting the rear of the vehicle, police found a 44.2-metre-long Telekom Malaysia cable believed to have been stolen by the suspects,” she said.
“We are currently in the process of tracking down the two remaining suspects, and the detained suspect has a history of nine drug-related offenses. A urine test will be conducted on him,” she added. – Bernama
