PETALING JAYA: According to reports, police have apprehended an individual who allegedly made a false bomb threat to a shopping mall located in Ipoh, Perak. The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was arrested at a residence in Tasek, Ipoh around five hours after the authorities were alerted about the incident. Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan confirmed that the suspect, based on his statement and confession, was responsible for the bomb threat call made to the shopping centre management. The police have also seized the communication device that the suspect utilized to make the call. As of now, the suspect will be remanded to facilitate further investigation under Section 507 of the Penal Code, which deals with the offense of criminal intimidation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, resulting in a comprehensive inspection carried out with the assistance of the Bomb Disposal Unit of Perak’s police headquarters, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defense Force. Thankfully, the inspection confirmed that no suspicious objects were found, allowing staff to re-enter the premises at 10:30pm.
