A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly snatching a handbag belonging to a senior citizen behind a shopping mall in Taman Muda, Ampang. According to the Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail, the incident took place on Thursday (Oct 19) at around 3.40pm. The 67-year-old victim was walking when the suspect, riding a motorcycle, snatched her handbag.
The victim lost two mobile phones, several personal documents, and RM200 cash, which were inside the handbag, said ACP Mohd Azam in a statement on Sunday (Oct 22). Following investigations, the police managed to apprehend the suspect at a house in Pandan Indah on Friday (Oct 20) at approximately 6.30pm.
“We also discovered two mobile phones belonging to the victim,” said ACP Mohd Azam. “Based on our findings, we believe the suspect used the stolen cash to purchase drugs. He is also suspected of being responsible for various snatch thefts in Ampang and Cheras.”
The suspect, who already has a criminal record involving drug-related offences, tested positive for drugs. He is currently under remand until Oct 27, according to ACP Mohd Azam.
