A man was severely injured on Sunday (Sept 24) after falling from the second floor of a shopping mall at Jalan Sulaman in Kota Kinabalu.
It is unclear how the incident occurred, but the 22-year-old man landed on the roof of a car park.
Ordine Gilu, chief of the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department, received a distress call regarding the incident at 10.34am.
He immediately dispatched a team along with the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) to the scene.
“To bring the victim inside the building, our team used ropes and a junkin stretcher to carefully lift him to the first floor,” he explained.
After being transported to the first floor, the EMRS unit provided initial treatment to the victim, who appears to have suffered a broken hip and leg from the fall.
“We then moved him to an awaiting ambulance for urgent transfer to the hospital for further treatment,” Gilu added.
The operation concluded at 11.50am after the rescue team determined that there were no additional safety hazards.
