In Kota Bharu, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) has announced its collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from 50 countries to implement the Post-War Gaza Reconstruction Plan. The plan encompasses development in five key sectors: health, education, housing, public infrastructure, and basic needs.
According to Mapim’s president, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, the anticipated cost of the plan is quite significant, with a projected US$100 million (approximately RM478.2 million) needed for the cleanup and restoration of the affected areas alone. The overall development plan is estimated to involve a total cost of up to US$50 billion (around RM239.1 billion). These figures were disclosed during a press conference held on Thursday, February 15.
Mohd Azmi further specified that the initial phase of the development plan is anticipated to take anywhere from two to seven years and require an investment of US$500 million (about RM2.39 billion). He expressed hope that the ongoing conflict can be resolved within this timeframe.
Additionally, Mapim is making arrangements to organize the Palestinian Mega Gathering on March 2 under the theme “Stop Genocide.” The organization hopes for widespread participation from Malaysians, encouraging them to wear white, red, green, and black. The gathering will include a march from the United States Embassy to Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur, where attendees will listen to speeches delivered by local leaders and representatives of various organizations.
Recently, on February 12, Mapim received generous donations amounting to RM30 million, along with five ambulances, for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Contributions came from 17 donors, including those from Thailand, Turkey, Singapore, and India. This information was reported by Bernama.
