In Kuantan, the Pahang government has approved the gazettement of a section of the Berkelah Forest Reserve in Maran as the Lubuk Yu State Park Forest, spanning 14,679.28 hectares, according to the state’s Mentri Besar.
Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail stated that with the gazettement of the Lubuk Yu forest, it will become the fourth state park forest in Pahang, joining the likes of Cameron Highlands (2,270 hectares) in 2019, Rompin (31,797 hectares) in 2000, and Tasik Chini in Pekan (6,502.80 hectares) last year.
The decision to designate the Lubuk Yu State Park Forest was made during a meeting of the state executive council on Wednesday.
“The Lubuk Yu State Park Forest has also been declared as a water catchment forest and will be managed by the Pahang State Parks Corporation, with the State Forestry Department entrusted with its management. Additionally, a state park buffer zone of 1.5 kilometers will be established,” said Wan Rosdy in a statement reported by Bernama.
He also mentioned that the establishment of the Lubuk Yu State Park increases the total area of state park forests in Pahang to 55,249.08 hectares.
