The Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) will share the details of its enforcement action against vehicle owners who park their cars in front of their houses after a special meeting on Wednesday (Oct 11).

Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman announced that the council would begin by conducting an awareness session to inform the public about the relevant by-laws that will be enforced in phases.

“During the meeting, we will present the complete paperwork on the enforcement measures, which will only be implemented gradually after receiving approval from the councillors.

“In the meantime, we will conduct awareness programmes for the public until the end of this year,” said Asman Shah during a joint press conference with the MBPG councillors at Menara Aqabah on Sunday (Oct 8).

Asman Shah highlighted that the council has received 349 complaints from the public between January and September this year.

“Last year, we received 242 reports of vehicles obstructing public roads.

“There have also been instances of neighbors arguing due to these issues,” he added, noting that 95% of the reports originated from residents of Pasir Gudang.

Asman Shah further clarified that the council will not immediately issue a fine, but will instead start by issuing a 21-day notice for vehicle owners to relocate their cars.

“Fines will only be imposed for repeated offenses,” he explained, specifying that the fines range between RM100 and RM2,000.

Johor Umno secretary Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman criticized the council on October 4, stating that the decision to implement such action is insensitive.

This comes after the council published a notice on its Facebook page announcing that vehicle owners who obstruct public roads by parking in front of their houses may face fines.
