The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has taken action against several commercial premises along Jalan SS15/4, Subang Jaya, by issuing 51 building notification notices over a three-month period. These premises were found to have illegally built drain covers and related permanent structures. As stated by MBSJ’s Corporate and Strategic Management Department, these notices are part of an ongoing joint enforcement operation that aims to crack down on unauthorized structures and drain covers in public places under MBSJ’s jurisdiction.
The owners of these premises have violated Section 70 (13) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), which prohibits the construction of structures or obstructions in public places without permission. MBSJ’s joint operation aims to address issues such as clogged drains, foul odors, and breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.
MBSJ has specifically highlighted that drain covers and related permanent structures are not permitted as they create difficulties for contractors responsible for drain cleaning. To further tackle this issue, a joint operation was conducted on September 5. Personnel from MBSJ’s Building, Enforcement, Licensing, Engineering, and Environmental Management departments participated in this operation, along with external agencies such as KDEB Waste Management, Air Selangor, the National Water Services Commission, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, and the SS17 Subang Jaya police station.
The 51 building notification notices were issued between May 31 and early September, spanning a three-month period. MBSJ emphasizes the importance of close cooperation between the council and the community to maintain a clean and orderly environment. Similar joint operations have also been conducted by MBSJ in other commercial areas, including Bandar Puteri Puchong and Bandar Puchong Jaya.
